Having plant friends is a great way to treat yourself and your indoor environment. If you want to take it a step further, here are a few ideas to help practice the three "R's": reduce, reuse, and recycle the next time you purchase from Pilea.
Don't throw away your candle jar! Boil water and carefully pour it into the jar about halfway. After just a few minutes, the wax will melt, and float to the top. Once it solidifies again, it should easily come out. You can use this wax for your wax warmer if you have one! Take the wick out and clean the jar thoroughly. Leave the label or peel it off! Either way, you now have a glass jar for plant propagations or for storing odds and ends.
Recycle those nursery pots. I never suggest repotting immediately. Infact, plants from Pilea can stay in their nursery pots until they outgrow them (you'll see the roots coming out of the drainage holes). The nursery pots are plastic and can be recycled once it's time to move on to another size. Recycle them or keep them for when the water propagations from your candle jar are ready to be potted!
Purchase a "Coffee and Plants" tote. Not only are they made of 100% recycled materials and organic cotton, but they're super cute. Skip the bags at the store and take a few totes instead!
Use the access water that drains into your plant saucer. Instead of dumping it, pour the water on another plant. Sometimes when I water my plants, I just hold one plant on top of another so that the water flows from the drainage holes, directly onto the other plant. Saving water is always a win.
